Obwohl die NSA-Affäre gewiss eine Art Hintergrundgeräusch abgibt, ist sie nicht Thema der Ausstellung. Es geht eher um die Zwiespältigkeit des europäischen (respektive deutschen) Blicks auf die USA, der gekennzeichnet ist von einer nach wie vor enormen Faszination für Land und Lebensstil einerseits (New York, Florida oder Kalifornien bleiben Sehnsuchtsorte) und fundamentaler Kritik an der US-Politik andererseits.

Gezeigt werden Bilder, Fotos, Collagen und ein 60-minütiger Film. Der thematische Rahmen lässt sich mit einer Reihe von Namen und Begriffen umschreiben: Elvis, George W. Bush, Michael Jackson, Jack Kerouac, 9/11, Graceland, Lowell/Massachusetts, the exorcist, lock and load, Pazuzu, Deathblow, Hatra, Babylon . . . . . . .

Da es sich um eine kleine, schnell organisierte Galerieausstellung handelt, die auf vorhandene Arbeiten verschiedener Künstler zurückgreift, bleibt sie assoziativ und von Zufälligkeiten bestimmt.

Und dass die Eröffnung auf den 4. Juli fällt, ist eine hübsche Pointe.

Although the NSA affair is certainly a kind of background noise, it is not the theme of the exhibition. It is more a question of the ambiguity of the European (or German) view on the US, which is characterized by a still fascinating fascination for country and lifestyle on the one hand (New York, Florida or California remain places of desire) and fundamental criticism of the US policy on the other hand.

Shown are pictures, photos, collages and a 60 minute film. The thematic framework can be described with a number of names and terms: Elvis, George W. Because it is a small, fast-organized gallery exhibition, which is based on existing works by different artists, it remains associative and determined by coincidences.

And that the opening falls on the 4th of July, is a pretty punchline.
